Just Checking In…

Posted by Aragoen Celtdra on 13th May 2009

Yes I have been MIA for a while. After my son was born, most of my study time was interrupted with constant diaper changes, caring for the 3-yr old and helping my wife transition in with the new addition. And suddenly I was struck with a lack of motivation. I just couldn’t get myself “in the zone” with constant disruption during study hours. As a result, even when I do find the time to study, my concentration is about as deep as my 3-yr old’s when he is playing with 5 different toys at a time. That is to be expected I guess.

Then a few weeks ago, my wife bought the Twilight series and she got me into reading it. Yes, it was her fault. :D It was not a conscious decision on my part to read that trash – hey! One man’s trash is another man’s…. food.  :D  But she got me hooked and I just had to finish reading all four books. In fact I read all four books in just over 2 weeks because I just wanted to get it over with. :D Ok, truth be told, I did enjoy the books. In a way it was an escape for me considering I’ve been reading thousands of pages of technical documents for the past year and a half.

Anyway, as if all the distractions weren’t enough, last week my family was dealt with a major blow when my mom slipped into a coma after suffering some kind of heart attack. She was already checked in the hospital for a completely different reason prior to that episode. She was just sitting on her hospital bed talking and joking with my dad when she just collapsed all of a sudden.  She stopped breathing and her heart stopped beating. The staff tried to resuscitate her for 25 minutes but by then she had gone without oxygen in her system for just as long. Right now she is still intubated in the ICU, and is non-responsive to any external stimuli. Both of my brothers were called in from Iraq and Afghanistan, respectively and have been home since yesterday – helping my father out at the hospital since he prefers to stay there 24/7 to watch over my mom. We’re trying to get him to take a break for his own health but if that were my wife, I’d probably be doing the same. *By the way, thanks to all my Twitter friends for all the thoughts, prayers and support you’ve given me and my family the last few days. I really appreciate that a lot.

So that’s a short synopsis of the going-ons in my life the last few weeks. I’m still trying to study as much as I can but of course other priorities take precedence – like reading Twilight. j/k ;)

Where are you at?
