One question: Sorry if it is silly question.
In the entire process, I do not see any router (A or B) sending any router LSA to announce the routes/networks, costs etc. Collection of all types of LSAs make the complete Database(LSDB) in the routers. Only if they have the database, they can compare and synchronize their databases (which is done in EXCHANGE state)?.If that is the case, when did router send these LSAs to other routers so that other routers could create/update their Database before EXCHANGE state is reached?.
Or Is it something that created in parallel with the process ?

@Thiago: Embarrasingly, I forgot what command I used. :D I believe it might have been debug ip ospf events. I'll go back and fire up the lab again to test.

@Jatin: I'm glad it was of some help to you. ;-)

@Suffah: LOL! I hope I scare you in a good way. =D

@Jan:Thanks Jan! I'll keep that in mind. Unfortunately, I probably won't have a lot of time to do this kind of writeups in the following weeks because of test preparation. This article was already pre-written from a while back. I just had to "re-lab" it so I can give examples for the theory.

However, I plan to do more of this type of write-ups after I take the exam - so stay tuned for that. ;) And if you look through some of my archives, you'll find other posts similar to this one.

Hey I wanted to say that this article is awesome! Very interesting to see exactly what is going on when two routers are forming a relationship. You should do some more on different area types with OSPF and what happens when routes go down.
