Joey: Thanks bro! I thought about that the first time I worked on our PIX. I'm glad the concepts are generally the same. So when I'm trying to learn how to do something on a PIX, the concepts are not too foreign. I actually spent a good 3 weeks just poring over materials on how to configure VPN on an IOS router. My boss changed his mind last minute about using the PIX instead of the routers we've been using before. It was a bit intimidating when I first got in the PIX OS. What's frustrating for my boss is that when he configured them a few years ago, it was using version 6.0. It has since been upgraded to 7.2 and the syntax is completely different from the previous one. I guess it's all the same to me because that was the first time I'm seeing them anyway, so whatever version would be completely foreign to me. Supposedly the 7.0 versions are more similar to the new ASA OSs. That is kinda good for me, I guess, because I'm seeing a lot of job postings that refer to ASAs as a qualification. I guess I'll find out in time how much similar or compatible they are.

Suffah: Hehe.. It wasn't that bad really. At that moment I really wanted to jump at the opportunity and I was so focused that the whole day all I did was troubleshoot and configure. And each time I got closer I felt more and more motivated.
As far as how I stand, he hasn't really said anything to me. Yesterday he was acting like nothing ever transpired. But then again he was also extremely busy because our CEO was in town. I'm sure he's cool about everything and he'll surely give me some props later. Maybe :D

Oh man, you dealt with the situation pretty well. I think most people would have had a total meltdown. How do you stand in your boss' eyes now?

Very good deal! Sounds like you're getting presented with quite an opportunity, and wisely making the most out of it. PIX are fickle beasts, I really don't enjoy spending time in them. (Thanks Cisco, for deeply ingraining a series of commands and then completely going away from that >.<).

It always amazes me when I sneak in a "oh, well you missed that" on our engineers, it's amazing what extra eyes can do.

Good work, keep it up!
